EM Construction provides expert interior and exterior wall repair services for residential and commercial properties throughout New York and New Jersey. From patching a single hole to restoring an entire deteriorated facade, our skilled crews diagnose wall problems correctly and deliver repairs that are structurally sound, waterproof, and visually seamless.
Walls take a beating. Interior walls are damaged by plumbing leaks, settling foundations, accidental impact, and deferred maintenance. Exterior walls face a relentless assault from weather, thermal movement, pollution, and biological growth. EM Construction addresses wall problems at their root — not just their surface — so repairs last.
Interior Wall Repair Services
Drywall Repair & Patching
Holes, dents, and gouges in drywall are repaired with appropriate patching compounds, fiberglass mesh, or backing board depending on the size of the defect. We feather patches smoothly into surrounding surfaces for invisible repairs ready for painting.
Plaster Repair
Many older New York City apartments and brownstones have original plaster walls and ceilings that require specialized repair techniques. We restore damaged plaster using multi-coat repair methods that match the strength, texture, and thickness of the original work.
Water Damage Repair
Water-damaged drywall, plaster, and framing must be properly dried before repair to prevent mold growth. We assess moisture conditions, address any active leaks, allow adequate drying, remove and replace unsalvageable material, and apply mold-resistant products where appropriate.
Crack Repair
Wall cracks range from cosmetic — hairline paint cracks from thermal movement — to structural, indicating foundation settlement or framing problems. We evaluate each crack, address the underlying cause where possible, and apply the appropriate repair: flexible elastomeric fillers for moving cracks, rigid patching compounds for stable cracks.
Skim Coating
When a wall surface has extensive imperfections, texture variations, or damaged areas, skim coating — applying a thin layer of joint compound over the entire surface — produces a uniformly smooth substrate ready for a quality paint finish.
Mold Remediation & Wall Rebuilding
Where mold has penetrated building materials, affected sections must be removed and replaced following proper containment and disposal protocols. We rebuild affected wall sections with mold-resistant products and address the moisture source to prevent recurrence.
Fire & Smoke Damage Repair
Walls damaged by fire or smoke require specialized cleaning, odor treatment, sealing, and reconstruction. We assess the extent of fire damage, coordinate with restoration specialists where required, and rebuild damaged wall sections to their original condition.
Exterior Wall Repair Services
Brick & Masonry Repair
Spalled, cracked, or missing brick is replaced with matching material. Mortar joints are repointed. Efflorescence is treated. We restore exterior masonry walls to full weather resistance and a clean, uniform appearance.
Stucco Repair
Cracked, delaminated, or missing stucco sections are repaired by matching the base coat thickness and finish texture of the surrounding surface. We address the underlying moisture or substrate issue that caused the stucco failure before applying new material.
Concrete Wall Repair
Cracks and spalls in concrete walls are repaired with polymer-modified patching mortars, epoxy crack injections, or full-depth concrete replacement depending on the size and structural significance of the defect.
CMU Block Wall Repair
Cracked or deteriorated concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls are repaired by replacing damaged units and repointing affected joints. Where water infiltration is present, waterproof coatings are applied to the repaired surface.
EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System) Repair
Dryvit and other EIFS systems develop cracks and holes that allow moisture intrusion if not promptly repaired. We repair EIFS systems using compatible base coat, reinforcing mesh, and finish coat materials that match the existing texture and color.
Parging
Parged walls — interior or exterior foundation walls coated with a thin layer of mortar — often deteriorate and need to be replaced. We apply new parged coatings over prepared substrates to restore a smooth, water-resistant surface.
Exterior Crack Sealing
Cracks in exterior masonry, concrete, or stucco are routed (widened to a uniform width) to accept a proper sealant installation. Backer rod and elastomeric sealant are installed in moving cracks; mortar patching compound is used for stable cracks.
Our Process
1. Assessment — We evaluate the wall surface and investigate the underlying cause of damage — whether structural, moisture-related, or mechanical.
2. Root Cause Resolution — We address the source of the problem (water leak, foundation movement, pest damage) before beginning surface repairs.
3. Material Removal — Deteriorated, contaminated, or structurally compromised material is removed to sound substrate.
4. Substrate Preparation — Surfaces are cleaned, primed, and prepared to receive repair materials.
5. Repair Application — Appropriate repair materials are applied in the specified sequence and thickness.
6. Finishing — Repaired surfaces are finished to match the surrounding texture and are ready for painting or coating.
7. Inspection — Completed repairs are inspected before the site is restored and work is signed off.
